MODULE 2-3

Understanding Shutter Speed

  1. Fast Shutter Speed (1/1000s)

Features: Captures moving targets sharply, freezing motion.
Example: Accurate moment of a fast-moving sports athlete or car.

Fast shutter speeds are best for sports photography or for capturing actions. As shown in the picture, the race cars were captured mid-motion very clearly.

  2. Normal Shutter Speed (1/250s)

Features: Medium speed for sharp images in still situations.
Example: Clear images of landscapes, people, and groups.

Normal shutter speeds is a standard shutter speed good for portraits and still subjects. The camera will capture still subjects clearly, and will also capture some motion blur if there is any movement.

  3. Slow Shutter Speed (1/30s)

Features: Introduces blur by detecting movement.
Example: Flowing river, night scenes, light traces.

Slow shutter speeds give more time for the lens to absorb light. This means that photos taken with slow shutter speeds detect lots of movement, which results in motion blur in the photo.

This is good for dramatic and artistic photos that use to motion blur to create cool visual effects.
